As the sun dips low and the night draws near, we humans usually turn in for the night...but this is show time for bats!

On the first Sunday of every month, our Self-care Sunday Series invites you to join in on various activities specially created to help us engage with the beautiful surroundings of Powhatan State Park.

Foraging can foster a special connection with the land as well as with fellow foragers.

Get your mid-week boost with a walk among the trees, meadows, with fellow nature lovers!  You don't have to read the countless scientific studies to know that being in nature and getting exercise in the fresh air is good for your body and your mind. So let's get together, make friends, and enjoy the outdoors while improving our health!  Each week will feature a different trail, each with a distance of about 2-2.5 miles.

Take a guided walk with a ranger alongside golden meadow and autumn forest to find out who is out and about!

Get out and get creative with our monthly series of Nature Journaling workshops led by a local naturalist!  Teens and adults are invited to deepen their connection with nature and stretch their creative muscles in this hands-on course. You'll practice collecting and recording your observations of nature in various creative ways with your journal.

Join astronomers from the Richmond Astronomical Society for a night of awe and wonder.

You don't have to go to the mountains to enjoy the stunning fall colors that Virginia has to offer!  At Powhatan State Park, the forests abound with warm red, orange, gold, and yellow from a wonderful variety of native trees. Bask in the autumn beauty on this ranger-led hike, where you'll practice tree identification using leaf shape, color, bark, and nuts.  The walk will be about 2-3 miles at a relaxed pace on a mostly flat trail with a few moderate inclines.
