Cemetery Driving Tour

Location of Powhatan State Park in Virginia

Where

Powhatan State Park, 4616 Powhatan State Park Rd., Powhatan, VA 23139.
Overflow Parking (River Bend Campground)

When

Oct. 25, 2025. 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Join a park ranger for a ride to the park's historic cemetery and a guided walking tour. You'll learn about who is buried among the many graves, and the many mysteries that remain. While most of the graves are unmarked, three headstones show the names of loved ones long since passed: Alpheus Hudson, Reverend Samuel Jasper, and Toney Funn. What do we know about them, and what is yet to be uncovered?

The park van will meet you at the River Bend Campground's Overflow Parking Lot. From there, you'll take a short ride along the old farm road where those who are buried nearby once lived and worked. The park ranger will then lead you on the cemetery path, which is forested, flat, and less than 1/4 mile total.

Van seating is limited to 10 passengers. If you'd like to drive along behind the van, you are more than welcome to. There is a parking lot at the cemetery with room for several cars.

Register here to let us know you're coming. We will contact you if the program is cancelled due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
