When

Feb. 15, 2026. 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Join your fellow bird-lovers around the world in counting birds for science on February 13-16 for the Great Backyard Bird Count. On this guided birding walk, an interpretive ranger will help you identify and count the birds observed and submit the sightings to a global database via eBird or Merlin.

Some species migrate to Virginia and stay over the winter, while others live in Virginia year-round. Learn about their winter survival tactics and practice identifying them by their appearance, song, behavior, and even environmental context.

The walk will be up to one mile at a slow pace on easy to moderate terrain. Bring binoculars if you have them. If not, we do have a few pairs that can be borrowed. The trail can be muddy at times, so please dress accordingly.

Register here to let us know you're coming. We will contact you if the program is cancelled due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
