As the sun descends over the horizon, join Leesylvania State Park Rangers at the Bushey Point Trailhead for a guided hike and discussion on wetlands, their ecology, and their vital importance in maintaining a balanced, healthy ecosystem. Perhaps we'll come across some nocturnal wildlife on our excursion! Meet at the entrance to the Bushey Point Trail on the south side of Boat Launch Parking Lot Number 1 for the approximately 1.5 mile hike. This hike is rated as moderate in skill level; please dress for the weather, wear sturdy closed-toe footwear, and consider bringing water. Besides our fury, feathered, and scaly friends, Rangers will discuss other aspects of the park's ecology and history. No paddling experience is required; all participants must be of 6 years or older. Although Northern Virginia suffers from light pollution, on a moonless night, away from direct illumination, many celestial bodies can be observed. As they come into view, Rangers will discuss the constellations and other celestial bodies, identification techniques and some of the ancient myths and lore associated with these heavenly objects. Sky maps will be provided; no other special equipment is needed but consider bringing your own comfortable seating.

Discover some of the beautiful fish that make their homes in the Potomac River with a Park Ranger using a seine net, one of humankind's oldest fishing tools. This is also a great chance to appreciate the important role that the Potomac River and its watershed has in our community. Be prepared to have fun and get wet.
