This program is all about learning how to identify wild animals by the tracks that they leave behind. Our park interpreter will guide you out onto the hiking trail in search of paw prints, hoof prints, claw markings, and any other evidence of animal traffic. After this we will return to the visitor center where you can create your very own mold of any animal track of your choice. All materials will be provided by the park. Please dress for the weather and be prepared to hike at least half of a mile.

Some fishing poles and worms will be provided, but feel free to bring your own rod and tackle.

We will go on a short hike on the riverbank trail, and along the way will stop at some of the more well-known trees in Virginia. We’ll show you some tips and tricks that you can use to identify many different types of trees, and also show you some of the different types of wood that you can get from them.
