Park staff and volunteers will clean up trash and debris along the Wheaton Trail where rain runoff and debris deposits into Sailor's Creek and its tributaries which directly affects the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.

Step back into a tumultuous moment in American history with "Their War is Over: Prisoners, Casualties, and Their Unknown Destinations," a lantern-lit self-guided tour at the historic Hillsman House on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Immerse yourself in the raw aftermath of the Civil War as you move through an authentic re-creation of a working field hospital, complete with makeshift cots and the hushed urgency of battlefield medicine.

The Overton/Hillsman family has played a significant role in the history of Sailor's Creek Battlefield.

From May to August, the Overton-Hillsman House will be open to the public on the first Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. The historic home was a witness to war, a battlefield hospital, and the birthplace of one of the nation’s foremost Black educators.

In recognition of Nurses Week and Mother's Day, Sailor's Creek Battlefield will host a program that highlights the invaluable contributions and sacrifices women have made to achieve their current positions in medicine.
