An Eastern Shore Getaway to One of Virginia's Most Iconic Parks
Kiptopeke State Park on Virginia's Eastern Shore offers an ideal getaway in some of the park system's newer cabins.
On a recent visit, I discovered that these cabins were some of the nicest I have seen, from the unique bespoke Chesapeake Bay wall decor to their comfortable and private setting. While other cabins are nearby, each one has enough outdoor space to give you the feeling that you're on a private island or tucked away in the woods, and for us, that's what a cabin stay is all about.
We enjoyed a total change of scenery with a chance to unplug at Kiptopeke's Cabin C.
Cabin C is beautiful inside and out at Kiptopeke State Park.
Just bring the food and beverage, as the cabin is set up to cook and enjoy meals together.
Cabin C at Kiptopeke State Park is a two-bedroom, one-bathroom open floor plan cabin with a gas log fireplace and vaulted ceilings. One bedroom has a queen bed and the other two sets of bunks, so the cabin sleeps up to 6.
This cabin is ADA compliant, which means there is a ramp to access the front door and handicap-accessible features such as an open kitchen sink and bathroom vanity.

The park also has camping, 6-bedroom family lodges, yurts and a camping lodge (bunkhouse).

The only minor drawback to visiting this park or staying in a cabin is the added cost of the toll you have to pay on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. But there is enough to do at the park, including some great ranger-led nature programs and nearby fun in the town of Cape Charles and other Virginia's Eastern Shore sites that you will more than get your money's worth.
Cabin fees and pet rates can be found here.
Cabin C is private yet close to everything at Kiptopeke State Park.

Ride your bike or wander down a trail to the beach, playground or fishing pier from the cabin area. You can also hop on one of the trails that leads to the Bay Overlook or Taylor's Pond nearby. Click here (PDF) to see a trail map.
