Veterans and their sacrifices are important to us here at Sailor's Creek Battlefield.  We invite visitors to join the staff for our annual Veteran's Day Luminary commemorative event to honor all those who have served our nation's military, past and present. At dusk, rangers will lead the groups of visitors down an illuminated path where historical vignettes will be recreated by historians describing the scenes from the Battles of Sailor's Creek and its aftermath. This year we will highlight a new trail on a section of the battlefield that we have never used before.

Join us for a traditional Christmas program for family photos in the parlor room of the Hillsman House with Saint Nicholas. Children's craft tables and refreshments will also be provided with assistance from the Sailor's Creek Friends Group at the visitor center. Free to the public.

This year's "First Day Hike" event will be a self-guided scavenger hunt with clues found on all of our hiking trails and a few other points of interest.

Were kites used during the American Civil War? How did they communicate during battles with all of the smoke and noise? Find out these answers and more while flying kites at the battlefield.

This year we will follow in the footsteps of the 18th Georgia Battalion (Savannah Volunteer Guard) and the 121st New York Infantry. Visitors will be divided into two groups and led by park rangers and historians Joshua Lindamood and Zachary Pittard. The tour will help commemorate the 158th anniversary of the battle. The tour will begin and end at the Visitor Center. This program will include a hike out to where these two units engaged along with an interpretive program.

Local author, historian, and minister Reverend Emanuel Hyde III will provide a presentation about his book, The Unsung African American Heroes of Amelia County, Vol.

Join us for a fishing adventure at Sailor's Creek Battlefield. The cow pond behind the Visitor Center has been stocked, and we are ready to see who can catch the largest fish!

This Memorial Day Weekend, on Saturday, May 27th, you are cordially invited to partake in a commemorative tribute to our nation's armed forces. Period-dressed, living historians will represent soldiers from the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and World War II. Modern military vehicles and equipment will be on display. Retired Air Force Colonel Greg Eanes will deliver a keynote address. A Color Guard and Honor Guard will be present with the playing of "Taps", and a family-friendly challenge course will be setup by representatives from the National Guard. Food vendors will also be on site during the day's event which is free to the public.

Have you ever been at a historic site and noticed trash on trails, in the parking lot, or litter just lying around blowing gently in the breeze? This is your chance to help us patrol the battlefield for trash and assist us in cleaning up a section of our hiking trail down by Sailor's Creek. All equipment will be provided.
