Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

158th Battle Anniversary Commemoration

April 8, 2023. 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

This year we will follow in the footsteps of the 18th Georgia Battalion (Savannah Volunteer Guard) and the 121st New York Infantry. Visitors will be divided into two groups and led by park rangers and historians Joshua Lindamood and Zachary Pittard. The tour will help commemorate the 158th anniversary of the battle. The tour will begin and end at the Visitor Center. This program will include a hike out to where these two units engaged along with an interpretive program.

Portions of this program may be altered or changed if inclement weather should arise. Please wear appropriate footwear for unpredictable terrain and dress accordingly for rapidly changing spring temperatures. Please call the Visitor Center at 804-561-7510 for questions.
