Park in Review: Sky Meadows State Park
Rich in history and one of the most photogenic places in the commonwealth, Sky Meadows State Park with her beautiful rolling pastures, woods and farmland is found on the eastern side of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
With year-round nature and history programs, stunning views, old growth trees to picnic under, and the oasis of primitive hike-in camping, this is an all-time favorite park for many of our visitors.
There are fun interactive events throughout the year like this Living History program

ABOUT
This is a 1,864-acre park that has 10.5 miles of bridle trails, 24 miles of hiking trails, 9 miles of bike trials and Appalachian Trail access. If you have ever wanted to hike the A.T. this is a great place to do it, and it is a three-day hike from Harper’s Ferry, W.Va. The 2,190 mile Appalachian Trail barely touches West Virginia, giving it only 4 miles of the famous trail while Virginia boasts the most trail with 554 miles, and this park has 3 of those.
The park is a perfect excursion destination for the family or with a loved-one, with its Mount Bleak House that is open for tours, and a log cabin, wash house, ice house and agricultural garden which even includes bee keeping.
The name Sky Meadows comes from former owner Robert Hadow, who named the property "Skye Farm" after an island in Scotland. Learn more about the settlement and history of this land here.
