Spring into Life on the Farm at Sky Meadows State Park
Growing up in the country gave me plenty of opportunity to experience farm life. As a child, I fed chickens and collected eggs. I helped plant a vegetable garden and spent time weeding, watering, and picking produce.
As a result of this work our family enjoyed eating fresh eggs, vegetables, and fruit grown in our backyard. From these experiences, I developed knowledge of where food comes from and sense of respect for farmers who spend their lives providing food for the whole world.
Many people do not have the opportunity to connect to the garden and farming the way that I did, that’s why I love Sky Meadows State Park’s signature program "Life on the Farm" and hope you will too.
Kids love to help plant seeds in the Kitchen Garden
Life on the Farm
This is a monthly program on every third Saturday, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. starting in April running throughout the growing season. The last Life on Farm program will be the second weekend of October for Sky Meadows' Fall Farm Days agriculture weekend.
During our Life on the Farm program, the historic area brings an historic 1840’s farm to life. Each month’s activities change based on what needs to be done in our Kitchen Garden and what the garden is producing. Just like I did as a child, during our program you can get your hands dirty in the garden, see how the vegetables are used in the kitchen, and make your own connections to farming and history.
