Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Celebrate National Trails Day at Sky Meadows State Park

For most visitors coming to Sky Meadows State Park means getting outside and hitting the trails. Why do trails appeal to so many people? Well for me, hiking is one of the best ways to relieve stress.

After 30 minutes outside walking, I feel like I can breathe again, my head clears, and that nagging internal voice quiets. Then, I can enjoy the amazing views, notice wildflowers and birds, and reconnect with the natural world.

Enjoy Sky Meadows State Park trails with someone you love

Having natural places to walk and hike are incredibly important to me, and that’s why celebrating National Trails Day is my list of things to do on June 4, 2016. Whether you’re an experienced hiker or just beginning, I invite you to give Sky Meadows State Park’s 24 miles of trails a try. You’ll be glad you did!

You are invited to join us for a day out at the park for one of the following programs in celebration of National Trails Day on June 4, 2016.

National Trails Day is an event that is geared toward getting people out on our nation’s amazing trails, and giving back to the trails that we love so much.

Get out there > Thru Hiking the Appalachian Trail: Have you ever wanted to make that long-distance backpack trip, but don't know how or where to begin?

Join Jim Fetig, an experienced hiker and member of the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (PATC), as he speaks in the Carriage Barn (located in the Historic Area) at 11:00 a.m. Jim is a veteran hiker who hiked all 2,185 miles of the Appalachian Trail in 2014 including the 3 miles that go through Sky Meadows State Park. This is a great opportunity get connected to the PATC to turn your dream into the experience of a lifetime.

Give back > Volunteer Opportunity: This year, join staff to install signs along Sky Meadows' 5K course.

Be prepared for hard work digging post holes and placing signs. Don't forget your work gloves, hat, and water bottle. Meet at the Backcountry Trailhead at 10:00 a.m. Having the 5K course signs installed permanently will allow runners to train at our park throughout the season. This will give everyone another way to enjoy Sky Meadows State Park trails.

Sky Meadows State Park hosts two 5K runs each year, one during the Delaplane Strawberry Festival in May, and one on Veterans Day. Help us install 5K course signs for our runners

Sky Meadows State Park is located at 11012 Edmonds Lane, Delaplane Virginia. The park is less than two miles south of Paris, Va., via U.S. Route 50 to Route 17 South; or seven miles north of I-66, Exit 23 on Route 17 North. The park entrance is on State Route 710.
