Fairy Stone State Park, located in the picturesque foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Patrick County, is a natural haven that captivates visitors. The park features the mysterious fairy stones, naturally occurring crystalline crosses formed from staurolite, which have long been associated with folklore and local legends. Beyond these whimsical formations, the park offers an array of recreational activities, including hiking trails and a serene lake for boating and fishing. Amenities and Specifics
- Shelter 1: Accommodates 75 people under the shelter. There are no restrooms but a portable toilet is available. The shelter overlooks the lake and features lights, a large grill and a fireplace at each end of the shelter. No electrical outlets are available.
- Shelter 2: Accommodates 75 people under the shelter. The restroom is approximately 500 feet from the shelter; however, the restroom is closed December through March. The shelter has a large parking area and features electrical outlets, a large grill, lights and a fireplace.
- Shelter 3: Allied Block Shelter. Accommodates 75 people under the shelter. A creek runs in front of the shelter, which features electrical outlets, lights, a large grill and universally accessible bathrooms.
- Shelter 4: Allied Pole Shelter. Accommodates 75 people under the shelter. It's universally accessible. There's no bathroom in this shelter, but the adjacent shelter (#3) has universally accessible bathrooms. A creek runs in front of the shelter, which features electrical outlets, lights and a large grill.
- Shelter 6: This shelter is available on a first-come, first-served basis only. The park cannot guarantee the shelter or privacy during your event. It accommodates about 45 people. It's on the right side of Fairy Stone beach near the boat rentals and has seven picnic tables and one large charcoal grill.
- Shelter 7: This shelter is available on a first-come, first-served basis only. The park cannot guarantee the shelter or privacy during your event. The shelter accommodates about 45 people. It's on the left side of the beach near the playground and has seven picnic tables and one large charcoal grill.
- A Special Use Permit Application must be submitted to the park at least 30 days before your event. This rule applies to all shelters.

1. Do you have a venue for ceremonies, receptions or rehearsal dinners?
- Yes, the park offers Fayerdale Hall Conference Center for ceremonies, receptions and rehearsal dinners. Ceremonies can also be held at the amphitheater or beach.
2. How many guests can these locations accommodate?
- Fayerdale Hall Conference Center can accommodate up to 230 guests for ceremonies and 130 guests for seated receptions, the amphitheater can accommodate up to 80 guests for ceremonies and the beach can accommodate 100+ guests.
3. Are the venues available for rent for the full day?
- Yes, the venues can be rented from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m.
4. Is internet access available?
- Yes, there is Wi-Fi available at Fayerdale Hall Conference Center.
5. Are tables and chairs available?
- Yes, tables and chairs are available for indoor use only. You must contact the park at least two weeks before your event to arrange setup. The park has 19 6-foot rectangular tables, 2 4-foot rectangular tables, 5 4-foot round tables, and 130 chairs.
6. Are restrooms available in the Fayerdale Hall Conference Center?
- Yes, there are restrooms in Fayerdale Hall Conference Center.
7. Are caterers allowed?
- Yes, park staff will need a copy of their certificate of insurance and health department permit prior to the start of the reservation.
8. Are DJs allowed?
- Yes, park staff will need a copy of their certificate of insurance before the start of the reservation. DJs must set up inside the hall. Park staff will discuss appropriate sound levels before the start of your event.
9. Can I serve alcoholic beverages at my event?
- Yes, we require an Alcoholic Beverage Control banquet license. Please provide a copy of the license to park staff before the start of your event. The license should be posted at all times while the event is being held. Alcohol may not be taken outside of the hall or off the patio.
10. Are decorations permitted?
- Yes, decorations are permitted but may not be attached to painted surfaces and may not damage the hall in any way. Paint, glue, glitter or confetti are not allowed. No candles or open flames are allowed. Renters are responsible for damages or any excess cleaning required after the event.
11. Is ice available?
- Yes, there is an ice machine at Fayerdale Hall Conference Center.
12. Is there a fireplace?
- Yes, there is a fireplace with gas logs. Please coordinate the use of the fireplace with the park staff.
13. Do I need to complete any additional paperwork through the park office?
- Yes, a Rental Terms of Agreement Form will be sent to you for review and signature. Please return the signed copy to the park office. Depending on the size and location of your event, a Special Use Permit Application is required. Park staff will send you an application if one is required.
14. What if I need assistance after the office closes?
- Staff will provide you with a ranger on-call phone number for after-hours assistance.
15. I would like to tour the hall before making a reservation. Is this possible?

16. Do you have overnight facilities for our wedding guests?
- Yes, the park offers 25 cabins, a family lodge, four yurts, a camping lodge and 49 campsites. Guests can make reservations 11 months in advance through the Virginia State Parks Customer Service Center at 1-800-933-7275 and select option 5.
