Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.


Parking Fees for Virginia State Parks


A parking fee is required to enter most Virginia State Parks. See prices below. False Cape, Natural Bridge, Sailor's Creek Battlefield, Staunton River Battlefield and Southwest Virginia Museum do not charge parking fees. Admission fees apply for Natural Bridge and Southwest Virginia Museum.

Parking fees are waived on Jan. 1 and on National Public Lands Day and any other day specified by the Director. Parking fees for Veterans are waived on Nov. 11. Virginia State Park license plate holders have parking fees waived on Earth Day, Arbor Day, Kids to Parks Day, Virginia State Parks Anniversary Day (June 15), Veterans Day and #OptOutside Day (day after Thanksgiving).

Payment

Pay at the park entrance contact station using cash, check or Visa, Mastercard or Discover cards. Or you can buy an annual pass.

Self-Pay

If main entrance contact station is unstaffed you must use the self-pay envelope provided.

Self-pay Instructions:

  • Cash or check – Place your cash or check inside the envelope and write your license plate number and other information on the outside. Tear the hang tag off and put it in your vehicle where it can be seen. Place the envelope in the slot provided.
  • Credit Card - You may use Visa, MasterCard or Discover. Use your phone to scan the QR code to be taken to the payment page. Write the receipt number, your license plate number and other information on the envelope. Tear the hang tag off and put it in your vehicle where it can be seen. Place the envelope in the slot provided.
  • Failure to pay the entrance fee can result in a $25 parking ticket.

More Parking Information

  • *Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day are the holidays charged weekend rates.
  • Parks holding special events may charge a special parking or per person fee.
  • Other Trailer Parking Fee (applies to trailers not covered by camping, equestrian or boat launch fee): $3 per trailer in addition to daily parking fee.
  • The period covered by the daily parking fee is midnight to midnight. Park guests utilizing overnight parking when and where available (e.g., backpackers, overnight fishermen, etc.) will be required to pay the applicable daily parking fee for each calendar day that their vehicle is in the parking lot (partial days included).
  • Published Parking fees do not apply to those using the park to conduct business. Commercial use fees apply. Contact the specific park for details.
  • Parking fees are included in the rental fees for meeting facilities, up to the capacity of the facility and provided that this waiver of fee is included in the rental agreement for the facility.
  • Parking fees are included in all overnight fees up to the number of vehicles specified for the site rented.
  • Visitors with a valid day or overnight parking pass are allowed free parking at any other Virginia State Park during the permitted period.

  • For the purposes of parking fees, the following holidays are charged weekend rates where applicable: Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day.
  • Parking fees are waived for:
    • Vehicles displaying government-issued disabled plates or placards (fees for trailers or boat launching must be paid).
    • Vehicles participating in an official activity of a school, home school or institution of higher learning. (If not in marked vehicles, coordinators should have a letter from the school verifying the official activity. For homeschool groups, proof of homeschool status such as current ID card from a state or national homeschool organization (HEAV, HSLDA, etc.) or a copy of the letter from the school district that acknowledges "Notice of Intent" to homeschool for that school year is required.
    • Official vehicles of federal, state, and local governments while on official business; vehicles making deliveries to the park; contractor and business vehicles performing work in the park; service vehicles such as tow trucks, and emergency vehicles while conducting official business, including training.
    • Persons using park roads to gain legal access to their private residence and guests to such residences and for vehicles passing through, but not stopping in, a park on a public roadway.
