Claytor Lake State Park is a 472-acre park located along the picturesque shores of Claytor Lake. It's a go-to designation for boating and sport fishing, but this park has much more to offer than just water-based recreation. Guests can enjoy hiking and biking trails, cabins overlooking the water, camping, educational programs and more. Claytor Lake is an ideal venue for small-to-large-sized weddings and receptions and offers an outdoor location for ceremonies, depending on the size of your guest list.

FAQs

1. Do you have a venue for ceremonies, receptions or rehearsal dinners?

  • Yes, the Water’s Edge Meeting Facility and gazebo are available throughout the year. Reservations are made 11 months in advance. Wedding packages are also available.

2. How many guests can the Water’s Edge Meeting Facility accommodate?

  • 70-100 guests, depending on seating style and room setup.

3. Is the Water’s Edge Meeting Facility available for rent for the full day?

  • The facility is available from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Please note, the Water's Edge Meeting Facility cannot be used for the storage of food, chairs, tables, decorations, etc. the day before or the day after your event. All items must be set up and cleaned up between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m.

4. Is the gazebo available for rent for a full day?

  • The gazebo is available from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Please note that if you rent chairs for a ceremony in front of the gazebo, they cannot be stored before or after your event at the park or the Water’s Edge Meeting Facility.

5. Is internet access available?

  • Yes, there is Wi-Fi.

6. Are tables and chairs available?

  • Yes, there are tables and chairs available. Decorations and linens are not provided. Please contact the park for more information.

7. Are restrooms available in the Water’s Edge Meeting Facility?

  • Yes.

8. Are caterers allowed?

  • Yes, park staff will need a copy of their certificate of insurance and health department permit prior to the start of the reservation.

9. Are DJs allowed?

  • Yes, park staff will need a copy of their certificate of insurance before the start of the reservation. DJs must be set up inside the facility. Park staff will discuss appropriate sound levels before the start of your event.

10. Can I serve alcoholic beverages at my event?

  • Yes, we require an Alcoholic Beverage Control banquet license. Please provide a copy of the license to park staff before the start of your event. The license needs to be posted at all times while the event is being held. Alcohol may not be taken outside of the facility or off the deck.

11. Are decorations permitted?

  • Decorations are permitted but may not be attached to painted surfaces and may not damage the facility in any way. Paint, glue, glitter or confetti are not allowed. No candles or open flames are allowed. Chafing dish fuel is allowed to be used with chafing dishes to keep food warm. Renters are responsible for damages or any excess cleaning of the facility required after the event.

12. Is ice available?

  • Yes, ice is available for purchase.

13. Is there a fireplace?

  • Yes.

14. Do I need to complete any additional paperwork through the park office?

  • Yes, a Rental Terms of Agreement Form will be sent to you for review and signature. Please return the signed copy to the park office. A Special Use Permit Application, including a $25 fee, must be submitted to the park office more than 30 days before your event. The $25 Special Use Permit fee is waived if you rent the Water’s Edge Meeting Facility.

15. What if I need assistance after the office closes?

  • Staff will provide you with a ranger on-call phone number for after-hours assistance.

16. I would like to tour the facility before making a reservation. Is this possible?

  • Yes, please contact the park office at 540-643-2500 to schedule an appointment.

17. Do you have overnight facilities for our wedding guests?

  • Yes, the park offers family lodges, cabins and camping. Guests can make reservations for overnight facilities 11 months in advance through the Virginia State Parks Customer Service Center at 1-800-933-7275 and select option 5.
