This is the fifth part in this series where I actually name names! By that I mean I am sharing a specific cabin at a specific park. It was super helpful for me as a state park goer to know the specifics. I booked those cabins, just as I booked this one, I don't want you to miss out on these great cabins and insight from someone who has actually stayed in this waterfront cabin at Occoneechee State Park and plan to stay there again in the future!

Wait for the end of this article where you can check availability and plan your next getaway to this awesome state park located along the John H Kerr Reservoir which is Virginia's largest lake! These cabins are on two private loops, great for kids to ride their bikes/skates and goof around.

There are three boat ramps at Occoneechee State Park

Hint #1 There is a water filter in the fridge that will dispense ice cold filtered water.

Hint #2 Clarksville is just across the bridge from the park, a 2-3 mile drive, where you will find quaint antique shops and a few restaurants, like an historic home with inside and outside dining "The Lake House Restaurant" and another Italian pizza parlor for the kids.

Hint #3 If you are there to fish, the Crappies are found in abundance under the bridge pilings. 

Hint #4 There is a playground near the visitor center and picnic area with terrific water views, there is access to a dock and also a point to wander around or fish from the shore. This is a fishing/recreation lake, the shoreline is not very accessible and is in fact very rough. There is no swimming beach here, but you may go up the road to Staunton River State Park and use their pool at no extra cost.

The park has more than 18 miles of trails that meander through the forest and along the lake’s shore.
