Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Step back in time as you stay in Cabin 4 at First Landing State Park.

Originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, First Landing State Park is located by the Chesapeake Bay. The park, which is Virginia’s most visited state park, is nestled in Virginia Beach. First Landing offers boating, swimming, nature and history programs, hiking, biking, picnicking, a boat launch, cabins and 20 miles of trails on 2,888 acres. It also has campsites with water and electric hook-ups and nearby access to restrooms and showers.

The park's name was changed in 1997 from Seashore State Park to First Landing State Park to reflect its heritage as the first place where members of the Virginia Company landed. They went on to settle Jamestown.

Rustic Cabin 4 at First Landing State Park is a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom cabin with fireplace, kitchen, and deck with screened in porch. This cabin is located up on top of the cabin loop in the trees and is very private. It is across Shore Drive from the beach, and has great jogging, walking and bike trails!

This is another in this series where I actually name names! By that I mean I am sharing a specific cabin at a specific park. As I mentioned in this article referring to Natural Tunnel State Park cabin #2, it was super helpful for me as a state park goer to know the specifics. I don't want you to miss out on this great setting at Cabin 4, and this wonderful experience along the Chesapeake Bay!

Plan your next getaway to this awesome state park and get outside to catch a fresh sea breeze!

Hint #1: The new Trail Center will be opening in the fall with interactive exhibits, be the first to enjoy this new visitor experience.

Hint #2: There is a self-guided tour of the Bald Cypress Nature Trail Area that will lead you through exotic lagoons filled with Bald Cypress and Spanish moss. Where you will be invited to explore and enjoy the many sights, sounds and aromas of the swamp and nature around you.

Hint #3: When you visit First Landing State Park you are in an oasis of nature, you can stay entirely in the park or go outside to Virginia Beach and walk the boardwalk, or go to fun restaurants and events. There are also great waterfront restaurants located just before the bridge on the Lynnhaven Inlet, heading North 2.5 miles on Shore Drive from the park.

Drive Time: Northern Virginia, three and a half hours; Richmond, two hours; Tidewater/Norfolk/Virginia Beach, 20-30 minutes (this facility is in the area); Roanoke, five and a half hours. Click here for a Google Map.
