Souvenir of the Week - Shark's Tooth
This is another of my weekly features on our new Facebook Souvenir Application. This week's souvenir is the shark's tooth.
You may not know this but several of our Virginia State Parks are superb hunting grounds for fossilized Shark's teeth like the one pictured above. The parks are Westmoreland State Park and Caledon Natural Area on the Potomac River, York River State Park on the York River, and Chippokes State Park on the James River.
Shark teeth hunting at Westmoreland State Park
You may not know that usually it is illegal to remove plants, minerals or artifacts from any of our state parks. These parks and fossils from the beach are one exception. The other exception is last week's souvenir, the fairy stone. These artifacts are exceptions because they are plentiful.
The parks offer programs on the history of the fossils including some hands-on searching on the beach.

Send a Virginia State Park's shark's tooth or one of the other souvenirs to your friends on Facebook today. You can access the application by clicking here or find it on our Facebook page on the left side under the photo.
