Virginia State Parks has 260 climate-controlled cabins to choose from, some with waterviews to rustic mountain retreats, original CCC built log cabins to more modern interiors.

The parks are open year-round for outdoor recreation, but how about a little indoor recreation? Light the fire, play Yahtzee, sip some hot cocoa...together.

At Douthat State Park it’s cabins 22-25, which are known as the creekside cabins. One room efficiencies at Douthat State Park are a special couple's getaway. Natural Tunnel State Park have amazing newer cabins, cabin 1 and 2 are my favorite. Cabin 1 being at the very end of the cabin road and very private, and cabin 2 with the views to die for. Learn more about the cabins at Natural Tunnel State Park here, with park specific cabin photos here.

Shenandoah River State Park has a nice cluster of cabins, all of them are terrific, but I would recommend cabin 4 for the privacy and overlook down on the meandering river below (especially in the fall and winter when the leaves drop).
