You may have already heard the buzz that Virginia State Parks is building new cabins and lodges. The facilities are close to being ready for occupancy and we now feel comfortable picking a date that we can start renting them.

There are so many contingencies from construction delays, inspections, punch list items and furniture delivery that we set the date far enough in advance to be sure that no customer will have to be turned away. We also have to make sure we let folks know when the reservations can be made in the element of fairness.

New six bedroom lodge under construction at Twin Lakes State Park, Va

Construction of the new six bedroom lodge at Twin Lakes State Park
(taken several months ago)

So, at 9 a.m. on Monday, February 13, 2017 we will be opening up the following facilities for reservations for the dates listed:

Park Facilities Book From
Claytor Lake 2 three bedroom cabins August 1, 2017
Kiptopeke 2 two bedroom,
2 three bedroom cabins
April 1, 2017
Lake Anna 2 six bedroom lodges May 1, 2017
Natural Tunnel 4 two bedroom cabins May 1, 2017
Twin Lakes 1 six bedroom lodge,
2 three bedroom cabins
May 1, 2017

It is likely the facilities will be available earlier than the dates listed, and when we have the occupancy permits and the cabins furnished we will open earlier dates up for reservations.

As with all our cabins and lodges, we take reservations up to 11 months in advance. We have a two night minimum and between Memorial Day to Labor Day weekends we require a week stay. Thirty days prior to the reservation start we drop the week requirement. Details and policies can be found here.

Stay tuned. We will be announcing reservation acceptance dates for new yurts at Fairy Stone, Powhatan, and Natural Tunnel state parks soon.

Virginia State Parks (March 23, 2017 09:48:28 AM): Believe it or not, the state construction process made camping cabins not an affordable native for us. However, the big trend for this type of structure is the Yurt and we are building them in parks across the state. We have had a deluxe yurt at Kiptopeke for some time but opened four more primitive versions at Pocahontas last fall and will be opening yurts at Fairy Stone, Natural Tunnel and Powhatan on May 15. The attached article says no pets but we are working on adding some structure hardening in at least one per park so we can allow pets. While no electricity for now, we are working on that too. Our goal was to get them up and open and add the electricity later since that is another infrastructure delaying issue. We will be adding yurts to Kiptopeke, First Landing, Chippokes, Shenandoah River, Claytor Lake, Hungry Mother, Grayson Highlands, Lake Anna, and Occoneechee. Some parks get 4, others get 3. Here is an article in case you haven't heard of them http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/blog/yurts-available-to-rent-at-pocahontas-state-park. Caroline (March 22, 2017 08:16:28 PM): I hope you will build more camping cabins at VA state parks! There are not many of these structures in the parks. They are cost effective to build and allow more people to experience camping without as many supplies (tent, etc.) and with the benefit of having "a roof over their head" if the weather is ... challenging.

Virginia State Parks (February 13, 2017 12:42:16 PM): We have a week stay requirement in the summer that we relax to the 2 night minimum a month before your arrival. However, we are currently having a special that if you rent a week, we sell it to you for a little less than the cost of 5 nights. The fee varies by in state or out of state so you can check it here http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/document/feescabins.pdf or call us at 800-933-7275 and someone can give you an exact cost including sales tax.

Daniel Simpson (February 13, 2017 12:37:53 PM): Hello! I'm interested in renting a two bedroom cabin at Kiptopeke for my honeymoon. The dates would be July 25-22. How much would the rates me? Thank you!

Virginia State Parks (February 09, 2017 10:28:31 AM): They are all near the water but only the lodge is really water view. You may be able to see some water from the others.

Karen Ranson (February 09, 2017 09:39:04 AM): Looking for new cabins and lodges please.

Virginia State Parks (February 06, 2017 09:41:30 PM): The lodge is definitely waterview. You aren't going to see the water from the other two but they are close to the water. If you are familiar with where the cabins are now these are on the other side of the meeting space.

Tara Hannon (February 06, 2017 01:09:52 PM): Are the new cabins at Twin Lakes waterfront?
