Introducing Alison Weddle

New Assistant Park Manager at Belle Isle State Park

Belle Isle State Park welcomed new Assistant Park Manager Alison Weddle this month.  Alison Weddle started her career with Virginia State Parks in July of 2005 as a Chief Ranger at Staunton River State Park and has worked at Holliday Lake State Park up until her transfer to Belle Isle.

Before her career with Virginia State Parks, Alison worked as a Science and Outdoor Educator at a private school in Newnan, Georgia. She was also previously an Environmental Educator at Camp Friendship in Palmyra, Virginia, where she met her husband.  Alison is committed to outdoor, environmental, and interpretive education in parks.  She will be assisting with managing the educational programming at Belle Isle State Park. 

Alison has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in Environmental Science. She has a Masters of Science in Recreation, Parks and Tourism from West Virginia University.  The Assistant Manager position is the next step in Alison's long-term career goals with Virginia State Parks.

Alison will be assisting in the management of our outdoor programs--like the kayak and canoe paddling programs.

She enjoys all kinds of outdoor activities with her family, enjoys visiting her in-laws in Lexington, Virginia, and is involved in her church. For the past year, she has been active as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer.  Married to her husband, John, for 10 years, Allison has a 4 year old son, William and welcomed her second son, John Stephen who was born in June.
