Due to the expected impact of the winter storm, all Virginia State Park overnight facilities will be closed from Friday, Jan. 23 through Sunday, Jan. 25. This decision is based on the forecast for unsafe conditions and potential power outages. For updates click here.

If you go out in the woods today
You're sure of a big surprise.
If you go out in the woods today
You'd better go in disguise.
For every bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain, because
Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic
Will gather there for certain, because
Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic
–Teddy Bear’s Picnic lyrics by Jimmy Kennedy

Every teddy bear knows that a soft, snuggly blanket is all that it takes to brighten the worst day. On July 10th at 1:30 p.m. Leesylvania State Park will be hosting a Teddy Bear Picnic themed blanket-making event at the Visitor Center.
We will enjoy picnic foods and games while we work side-by-side with our teddy bears to make warm fleece blankets. The blankets we will be making are going to benefit local children who are in need of a blanket to help them get through hard times. So bring a pair of scissors and your teddy bear to the park for a picnic and the chance to make a child happy.
We are also asking for donations of fleece material with child appropriate designs that have been pre-washed and cut in to sections of either 1 yard or 1.5 yards. We will be using this material to make our blankets. Donations of fabric can be brought to the Visitor Center Mon-Fri 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sat & Sun 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. If you cannot make it to this event please consider supporting this cause through a fabric donation.
This program is being offered in cooperation with the Loudoun County Chapter of the nonprofit organization Project Linus. Project Linus’ mission statement is to “provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer ‘blanketeers’.” Since beginning in 1995, Project Linus has donated more than 3 million blankets to needy children across the United States.
