Pollinator Smart Tour

Visitors will see first-hand a solar site certified through the Virginia Pollinator-Smart Program, an ecologically-responsible program that encourages pollinator friendly solar energy developments throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. These expertly crafted mixes of native plants can transform a solar facility into a thriving ecosystem that supports pollinator species, birds, and other wildlife, while enhancing facility economic efficiencies.

James Madison University (JMU) has shown leadership in the renewable energy space being the first higher academic institution in the Commonwealth to have a gold certified Pollinator Smart solar facility on its campus. The JMU East Hillside Solar Facility received Virginia Pollinator Smart gold certification for the vegetation management and planting design in 2024.

This upcoming summer event is to recognize the two-year certification milestone for the monitoring of the native pollinator species growing on the site. Come join us for a unique opportunity to tour a pollinator smart certified solar site.
