Build It and They Will Come

Participants will see the ongoing ecological restoration response of natural heritage resources that The Cedars Natural Area Preserve is designed to protect. This location has no existing public access, so this is a rare chance to see this ongoing work. Activities showcased here include forestry mulching that restores sunlight to the forest floor and prescribed fire which stimulates the newly exposed herbaceous layer. Check out pollinators zooming around the diverse understory of milkweeds, woodland sunflowers, and northern rattlesnake master. This area now supports a wide variety of native plants, lots of butterflies, and tons of bees - some of which are globally rare. It's a great space to see how different restoration techniques are bringing back historically diverse areas.
Due to limited parking at the site, we will be carpool upon meeting.
