Community Flood Preparedness Fund
Round 6 Awards

The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation has announced $99 million in awards from the sixth round of the Virginia Community Flood Preparedness Fund (CFPF), providing critical funding to help Virginia communities better prepare for, respond to and reduce the impacts of flooding.

The CFPF supports localities and regional partners as they assess flood risks, plan for resilient growth and implement projects that protect lives, property and critical infrastructure. It also supports the implementation of the Commonwealth Resilience Planning Principles detailed in Virginia’s Coastal Resilience Master Planning Framework.

The sixth round of the CFPF was announced in October offering grants and loans to support regions and localities to reduce the impacts of flooding in their communities.

DCR received 78 applications with grant requests totaling nearly $129 million.

The CFPF continues to prioritize projects that are in concert with local, state and federal floodplain management standards, local resilience plans and the Virginia Coastal Resilience Master Plan.

Since 2021, the Community Flood Preparedness Fund has awarded over $315 million to Virginia communities for innovative flood resilience and mitigation projects. Through these investments, communities are better prepared to address the challenges of increasing flood risks.

The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, in cooperation with the Virginia Resources Authority, administers the CFPF fund and grant program. DCR oversees the state’s floodplain management program.
