Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Fairy Stone State Park is only a few minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway and the fall foliage viewing is spectacular. Take a stroll around the 168-acre lake for stunning views or hike, cycle or horseback ride on the park's Little Mountain Trail System, 10 miles, most of which are multi-use. While there, see if you can find a fairy stone and learn the legend behind them.

Shenandoah River State Park is on the South Fork of the Shenandoah River and has more than 1,600 acres along 5.2 miles of shoreline. In addition to the meandering river frontage, the park offers scenic views of Massanutten Mountain to the west and Shenandoah National Park to the east. Culler's Overlook provides a gorgeous panorama perspective for fall foliage seekers. It was even voted the best scenic overlook in Virginia.

Enjoy a scenic walk or ride in beautiful central Virginia along High Bridge trail. The 32-mile-long trail has multiple access points, so guests from all over will find a convenient start to their adventure. The Camp Paradise parking lot provides quick access to High Bridge and a bird’s eye view of the Appomattox River and sweeping fall colors. Nearby Farmville offers bike rentals at the Outdoor Adventure Store as well as all the small-town charm and sundries you’ll need to complete your outing.

Historically a nature preserve, Caledon State Park’s Potomac-side forests are home to spectacular fall foliage and a healthy population of bald eagles. Guests will find wide, rolling trails suitable for all abilities surrounded by towering old-growth canopies. Families with children will appreciate the immersive natural play area and picnic shelter near the parking lot that make a perfect pit stop before or after your adventure.

Well known as one of the best mountain biking trail systems in the state, York River’s trails dramatically change during the autumn months. Riders of all abilities will find suitable trails and spectacular views. For those with their own paddle craft, a fall float along Taskinas Creek makes a memorable day trip any time of year, but especially so during peak foliage season.
