Become a steward of nature while building your local community and connecting with the people near you that share a passion for the outdoors. Meet with rangers at the Mason Neck State Park Visitor Center for a short talk about conservation and to get supplies to clean up the trash that washes onto the shoreline or is left and scattered along the trails and recreational areas. Clean-Up days are self-paced, so come clean our shoreline for as much time as you can spare to make a difference at the park.

Mason Neck is home to more than twenty species of waterfowl during the winter.  Meet Rangers at the Visitor Center for an introduction to our visiting waterfowl, then join us as we look out over Belmont Bay for the many ducks, geese, and coots in the park.

Have you seen the Blue Bird Boxes at Mason Neck and wondered who lives there, and why they are necessary? This program is perfect for bird lovers, nature enthusiasts, and anyone curious about the small but important conservation efforts happening right here in the park. After the discussion, we will go for a short walk to view some of the boxes. Meet interpreters at the Visitor Center. .

Join one of Mason Neck's interpreters along the Bay View Trail to discover the rich history of Mason Neck State Park. This program explores the changing relationships between people and the land, from early river-based communities and agricultural use to modern conservation efforts that preserve wildlife habitat and open space.

Dozens of birds and other animals migrate to and from Mason Neck each year, while others hibernate to escape the cold.

A full lunar eclipse will occur on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at 6:33 a.m. Stop by the visitor center to learn a little about the moon and the eclipse.

We will open the park gates early this morning to view the eclipse from the Visitor Center's back patio.
