Ever wanted to hike on an Island in the Sky AND in a Boreal Forest? What even are an Island in the Sky and a Boreal Forest? Who lives there and why is it a special place? Find out these answers and more by completing a fun scavenger hunt while visiting two of the highest peaks in the park! Join a Ranger behind the Visitors Center at the Twin Pinnacles Trail Head for a fun but moderate 1.3-mile round trip hike to explore the unique ecology and stunning views at Grayson Highlands State Park.
Please bring water and wear appropriate shoes for the hike. This event is for National Kids to Parks Day, but all are welcome to join!
About National Kids to Parks Day
Virginia State Parks celebrates National Kids to Parks Day on the third Saturday in May by offering a variety of fun, family-friendly activities, from nature scavenger hunts and ranger-led hikes to fishing clinics and flora and fauna wagon rides. This annual event encourages kids to explore the outdoors while learning about wildlife and engaging in hands-on environmental education.
