Grayson Highlands Winter Views

Join a Ranger for the inaugural hike of our Winter Hiking Series at Grayson Highlands State Park. Explore the highland landscape during the rarely visited winter season: Stark silence, open views, crisp air and winter skies. Feel the crunch of frozen earth below one's feet and witness the amazing views off in the distance or mother nature's mood swings while in a cloud bank. This guided hike will start at Massie Gap and is about 2.5 miles. The journey will include both Big and Little Pinnacles, all the while traversing the spruce/birch forests and rocky outcrops. The hike is considered difficult and will require prior winter hiking experience. Good waterproof hiking footwear, proper winter outerwear, leg gators and trekking poles recommended. Be prepared by bringing snacks, water and extra clothes. Pre-registration is required, and the program is subject to be rescheduled if weather conditions are too hazardous.

For more information and to pre-register, please email Kathryn.Miller@dcr.virginia.gov.
