There You Are, Bud.

Location of Bear Creek Lake State Park in Virginia

Where

Bear Creek Lake State Park, 22 Bear Creek Lake Rd., Cumberland, VA 23040.
Bear Creek Hall

When

Jan. 1, 2026. 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Start off 2026 with a walk among friends. A ranger-led walk titled There You Are, Bud will be offered at 10:30 a.m. The tree species we know in the summer by their leaf shape seem to go incognito in the winter until we learn new clues to identify them. On this half mile walk over moderately level terrain with some roots we'll look at trees' bark, buds, and survival secrets to get to know them better.

Bear Creek Hall will be open at 10 a.m. where the Friends of Bear Creek Lake State Park will provide light refreshments and camaraderie until 12:30 p.m.

For those taking a self-guided walk, park trail guides are available at the Park Office, Bear Creek Hall, and at trailhead kiosks. Please keep in mind it is hunting season and that some of the park trails connect to trails and roads in the Cumberland State Forest. Wearing a blaze orange or other bright neon vests or hats during hunting season is recommended.
