This Indigenous People's Day, visit a Virginia State Park, and dive into the rich history and culture of the Commonwealth.  The Patawomeck Indian Tribe is a state-recognized Indigenous Tribe centered in White Oak in southern Stratford County and Passapatanzy in King George County.

These native individuals have lived and walked these lands for well over 15,000 years.

Westmoreland State Park has a small interpretive and educational display that highlights and features a small sliver of insight into the lives of these people before and after contact.

Please join us at the Visitor Center to learn more about the Patawomeck people(s), as well as their fishing, farming, and forestry practices. A ranger will speak about the edible species that take place within the park boundaries and share knowledge passed down through word of mouth, books, and generations.
