Celebrate National Public Lands Day at New River Trail State Park by joining the New River Conservancy for a cleanup of Baker Island on September 27, 2025.
This is the third cleanup at Baker Island with the New River Conservancy. Baker Island is a mile-long island in New River Trail State Park, located at Foster Falls. Please sign up to help us continue cleaning up the devastation left behind by Hurricane Helene.
This is a perfect volunteer opportunity involving collecting trash, bagging it, and shuttling it by canoe and boat to the bank for disposal.
Please bring sturdy boots, gloves, weather-appropriate clothing, and your own lunch and water.

About National Public Lands Day
Virginia State Parks celebrates National Public Lands Day each September by inviting volunteers and visitors to take part in the largest single-day volunteer effort for public lands in the country. Join in preserving and enhancing the natural beauty of the state’s public lands through a variety of hands-on activities, including trail maintenance, tree plantings, invasive species removal, litter clean-ups and educational programs on the importance of conservation. Parking fees are waived at most Virginia State Parks for National Public Lands Day (excludes Grayson Highlands and the admission fee at Natural Bridge and Southwest Virginia Museum).
