Step back in time and experience the daily life of an American Civil War soldier at High Bridge Trail State Park. During this immersive living history event, visitors will get a firsthand look at the routines, hardships, and experiences of the soldiers who marched, fought, and camped near High Bridge during the final days of the war.

Featured Activities:
- Marching & Drill Demonstrations: Watch as soldiers go through their daily drills, learning the precise movements and discipline required on the battlefield.
- Camp Life: Step into an authentic encampment where soldiers prepare meals, maintain their equipment, and share stories of life on campaign. Learn about their rations, medical care, and the camaraderie that sustained them.
- Ask a Soldier: Interact with living historians to hear personal accounts of the men who fought at High Bridge. Discover how they endured long marches, the challenges of supply shortages, and the emotions of war.

The host unit will be the 44th Virginia and other living history units. Join us for a unique opportunity to connect with the past and gain insight into the daily lives of the men who played a role in this pivotal moment in American history. Feel free to stop by any time between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

About National Public Lands Day

Virginia State Parks celebrates National Public Lands Day each September by inviting volunteers and visitors to take part in the largest single-day volunteer effort for public lands in the country. Join in preserving and enhancing the natural beauty of the state’s public lands through a variety of hands-on activities, including trail maintenance, tree plantings, invasive species removal, litter clean-ups and educational programs on the importance of conservation. Parking fees are waived at most Virginia State Parks for National Public Lands Day (excludes Grayson Highlands and the admission fee at Natural Bridge and Southwest Virginia Museum).
