Where

Powhatan State Park, 4616 Powhatan State Park Rd., Powhatan, VA 23139.

When

Sept. 28, 2025. 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Step back in time as we uncover the mysteries of those at rest in the park's historic cemetery. On the way to the cemetery, we will walk by the former farm fields where those who are buried there once lived and worked. Their graves are tucked away in a shady grove of forest.

One headstone in particular will be the focus of our contemplation...who was Alpheus Hudson? How did he die, and who buried him? By weaving together historical records, period photographs, and our own imagination, we will uncover some of his story. What do we know, and what may forever remain a mystery?

Please wear comfortable walking shoes. The walk to the cemetery is a little over half a mile, so about one mile of walking in total is required. The trail is mostly flat, and we will move at an easy pace.
