How do you give back to the land that surrounds and nurtures you? Celebrate National Public Lands Day by helping clean up trails and picnic areas at Douthat State Park. The flora, fauna, and fellow park guests all benefit from the removal of plastics and other trash from our environment. Bring your friends and family; everyone receives free entry into the park on this special day.
This is a self-guided cleanup event. Stop by the Park Office to pick up a trash bag and gloves before heading out. If you collect more than 20 pieces of trash and show Park Office staff, you’ll receive a small prize (while supplies last) as a thank-you for helping keep our park clean.

About National Public Lands Day
Virginia State Parks celebrates National Public Lands Day each September by inviting volunteers and visitors to take part in the largest single-day volunteer effort for public lands in the country. Join in preserving and enhancing the natural beauty of the state’s public lands through a variety of hands-on activities, including trail maintenance, tree plantings, invasive species removal, litter clean-ups and educational programs on the importance of conservation. Parking fees are waived at most Virginia State Parks for National Public Lands Day (excludes Grayson Highlands and the admission fee at Natural Bridge and Southwest Virginia Museum).
