Songbird Stroll

Location of Smith Mountain Lake State Park in Virginia

Where

Smith Mountain Lake State Park, 1235 State Park Rd., Huddleston, VA 24104.
Meet at Discovery Center Pavilion

When

Aug. 1, 2025. 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

Start your day with birdsong and discovery by joining a park ranger for a bird-watching walk. Learn how to identify common local bird species by sight and sound. We will cover the basics of birding then go on a short hike to look and listen for our feathered park residents.

If you don’t have binoculars, we’ll have some you can borrow. For access to a free digital field guide, we suggest downloading the Merlin Bird ID app by Cornell Lab to your smart phone in advance. Please wear comfortable sturdy shoes that are suitable for walking on uneven trails. We recommend that you bring water, a hat, and bug spray. You may also want to bring a camera.

Space is limited, so pre-registration is required at the Visitor Center. This program is not recommended for children under the age of six. This program is FREE.
