Earth Day: "Reviving the American Chestnut Tree" Planting Event
Where
Smith Mountain Lake State Park, 1235 State Park Rd., Huddleston, VA 24104.
Discovery Center Pavilion
When
April 26, 2025. 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Do you want to contribute to the environment, but are not sure where to start? Come celebrate Earth Day with us and leave a lasting and beneficial imprint on the environment. Join us and members of the local chapter of The American Chestnut Tree Foundation for a tree planting. Trees provide oxygen, conserve water, inhibit erosion, and support wildlife. Not only are you helping the Earth, but you can come back to the park and visit the tree in future years to check on its growth. Learn the history behind this majestic tree and how you can be a part of its comeback. Be sure to wear the proper attire and footwear (no flip-flops please), then bring sunscreen and bug spray just in case. Make sure to also have plenty of water with you: just as trees need plenty of water, so do we. Tools, gloves and trees will be provided.
Registration opens April 1, 2025, at Smith Mountain Lake State Park's Visitor Center or call (540) 297-6066 for more information. Please pre-register no later than Thursday, April 24, 2025, by 4:00 p.m.
