Turtle Pond by the Kayak Launch

When

March 29, 2025. 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Mason Neck is home to many species of frogs living in the marshland, and the end of March is a perfect time find them as they begin to emerge for springtime. Together we'll look around the turtle pond and nearby waters to find species such as spring peepers, green frogs, cricket frogs, bullfrogs, tree frogs, and wood frogs. As their mating season begins these frogs will be very vocal so we're certain to hear them even if they're hiding!

Frogs are the most commonly seen amphibians at the park, and we'll learn about what make amphibians unique such as their semi-aquatic life cycles. As the frogs wake up from their winter naps, we'll also learn about brumation and how amphibians/reptiles behave differently from hibernating mammals. The frog frenzy is sure to be a hopping good time!
