Dark Skies - Visiting the Astronomical Neighborhood

Location of Belle Isle State Park in Virginia

Where

Belle Isle State Park, 1632 Belle Isle Rd., Lancaster, VA 22503.
Visitor Center

When

Sept. 14, 2024. 7:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Join our volunteer Bob Sutherland exploring the area we live in--not the street and zip code, but our place in the solar system, the Milky Way galaxy, and the local group of galaxies. Bob will feature some of his astronomical photos as part of the presentation. Then Art Gilbert will discuss how to get started in backyard astronomy, focusing on the “tools of the trade,” such as binoculars, telescopes, and mobile phone apps well-suited to amateur stargazers.

The program will be held rain or shine. Following the presentation and weather permitting, the group will move outdoors for telescopic viewing of the Moon and Saturn.
