To brumate, or not to brumate? That, is the reptile's question.

Every winter, as we all bundle up in layers and enjoy the warm of the indoors, reptiles and amphibians deal with the above conundrum. Brumation, a similar state of slowing down in winter to hibernation, is what snakes, turtles, and other cold-blooded animals implement to deal with the lack of warmth from the Sun. Their metabolism slows down and they burrow underground, only surfacing occasionally to search for food. This is one of many of the adaptations they have developed over many generations to deal with the long months of cold and night.

Our animal ambassadors Maverick , Barbie, and Howie will help explain what they go through in the winter months during this program. Participants will be able to see them up close and help feed thte turtles after the program is over.
