The Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park will host its next “Lunch on the Lawn” summer music series on Sunday, September 8, from 2 to 3 p.m., featuring Tyler Hughes.
Tyler is an old-time musician and educator from Big Stone Gap in the mountains of Southwest, Virginia. He has traveled close to home and internationally playing banjo tunes and singing songs from the Virginia coalfields. An advocate for passing on the region’s music to the next generation, he can often be found teaching banjo and square dancing at Mountain Empire Community College or at one of the many Junior Appalachian Musicians programs across the mountains.
Park staff and volunteers will have crafts and activities for children at each “Lunch on the Lawn” program. So, bring the whole family out, have some fun in the beautiful Victorian Garden and enjoy an afternoon of home-grown music and entertainment on the lawn of the museum.
The “Lunch on the Lawn” event is free and open to the public. Participants should bring their lunch.
