Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

East Coast Star Party - Public Observing Event

Chippokes State Park is proud to partner with the Back Bay Amateur Astronomers Club to introduce a special dark night sky and stargazing opportunity for all to enjoy. Club members will use their telescopes to share the night time sky with park visitors.

Visitors will be free to ask questions, observe, and look through telescopes during this public viewing outreach event. Chippokes has great horizons for astronomy in every direction.

Parking is available at the Jones - Stewart Mansion. This event is not weather dependent and is held rain or shine. The Conference Shelter will serve as an educational space if the weather turns sour.
