School is out and Spring is here. Join Rangers at Leesylvania State Park on a week long of Nature adventures.
Monday. Argh, Matey! Where's My Treasure: Leesylvania State Park has a new fun treasure hunting series for kids to tryout their orienteering skills. The series is free for all. Come by the Visitor Center to pick up a treasure map to find precious jewels within the park. Bring back some coins to the visitor center to claim a prize to take home. This self-guided activity is for kids 3 to 12 years old. Please call or email the Visitor Center to reserve your hunt time as treasure boxes are limited. The treasure hunt begins on Monday but will continue all week starting at 11am.
Tuesday at 10 am- 12 pm. Trash It Tuesday- Join rangers to help beautify our park by checking out buckets and grabbers from the Volunteer Hub. Return your bucket to a ranger at the Volunteer Hub and receive a voucher for a free ice cream. Please bring a reusable water bottle, and do not forget your friends. For questions call the visitor center at 703-583-6904. The Volunteer Hub is located next to the fishing pier.
Wednesday at 11am. Riverside Crafts- Bring your creativity and express your individuality as you join Leesylvania State Park Rangers in the Visitor Center for a unique crafting experience related to the Potomac River!
Thursday at 11 am. Nature Journaling: Meet us at the Visitor Center to explore the various ways you can connect with the Earth through keeping a nature journal. We lead a short hike with time to sit, reflect and create art in your journal. Paper will be supplied, or feel free to bring your own supplies.
Thursday at 1 pm. Back Yard Bass- Playing a game of Back Yard Bass makes learning to fish so much fun! Join a ranger to learn the basics of fishing and then play a game to test out your skills. Find out if you're a better at casting then the ranger. Please meet the ranger at the picnic area field located next to Shelter 2.
Friday at 11 am. Shell Support- Do you know why turtles have shells? We'll Join a ranger by the pond to learn all about turtle shells and to see some up close. You may even meet our resident Red Eared Slider turtle. While learning about shells you will leave with tips on how you can help turtles. The pond is located next to the playground!
