Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

The Virginia Master Naturalist Historic Southside Chapter will be hosting a guided hike and workshop experience for all experience-levels to attend and enjoy. Spend time exploring and observing with Master Naturalists in the field.

Bring your smart phones, identification apps, binoculars, field guides, water, a friend or family member, and anything else you'll need to record and observe wildlife.

Please, park at the Chipoax Trace Trail parking lot. The group will assemble there to explore the designated trail. Please keep an eye on the weather forecast. Unfortunately, this event is weather dependent and will be canceled upon poor weather conditions. A rain date has been tentatively set for July 20th.
