Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Come explore the historic town of Fries. This walk does have several inclines and declines and is around a mile long. A park guide will share stories of local history and the remains of the once thriving textile industry. Please meet at the Fries Access parking lot, dress for the weather, and wear sturdy shoes. Leashed pets are welcome.

Did you know that every Thursday evening the town of Fries hosts an old-time jam session? Our walk will end at the Historic Fries Theater where there's a chance to enjoy good ole' mountain music. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the music runs from 7-9 p.m. The Fries jams are an affiliated venue on the famous Crooked Road – Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail.
