Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Virginia State Parks History and Culture Day: Archaeology on Mason Neck

Celebrate the rich history and culture of Virginia's State Parks by diving into the archaeological work that has been done on Mason Neck. By sorting through the remains of former civilizations and cultures, archaeologists can put together the pieces of how people lived in the past.

Guests of all ages can participate in a fun, interactive archaeological dig to learn more about the previous inhabitants of the Mason Neck Peninsula. Rangers will also have examples of artifacts found during excavations in and around the park.

This program includes three stations where participants can find and piece together items from the past to become Junior Archaeologists.
