Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Come view a resident Osprey nest along the New River in Fries, Virginia. A spotting scope will be set up to get an up-close look at the nest. Learn how to tell the difference between various birds of prey, identify an osprey call, and discover more about their natural history.

Park at the Fries access on the New River Trail lot. Enjoy an eight-minute walk from the parking area through Fries Park, along the historic main street to Scenic Road, where you'll find a ranger set-up with a spotting scope. Exact coordinates provided here: 36.7166395, -80.9826528.

Stay a while afterwards and enjoy a guided tour of Fries (check our program schedule) and join the festivities at the historic theater for a Thursday night music jam. Doors open every Thursday at 6 p.m., and the music runs from 7-9 p.m. Music jam is a not a park-affiliated activity.
