Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Salamander at Hungry Mother

Crawdads, Salamanders, and Stone flies, oh my! Do you like to get hands-on experience looking for cool critters? The Appalachian Mountains are home to many unique aquatic species. Get ready to get your feet wet as we search for some of these and use what we find to keep an eye on how healthy our water is. 

This program will satisfy a portion of the "Outdoor Adventure" Brownie badge for Girl Scouts of America. Attend all of our Girl Scouts Love State Parks programming this weekend to complete the badge. This program will also be open to the public.
