Time Travel to the Cemetery

Location of Powhatan State Park in Virginia

Where

Powhatan State Park, 4616 Powhatan State Park Rd., Powhatan, VA 23139.
Overflow Parking (River Bend Campground)

When

June 8, 2024. 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Step back in time as we uncover the mysteries of those at rest in the park's historic cemetery. We will walk by the very same farm fields where those who are buried once lived and worked. Tucked away in a shady grove of forest surrounded by those fields, traditional burial plants, field stones, and graves represent the lives of loved ones long since passed.

One headstone in particular will be the focus of our contemplation...who was Alpheus Hudson? How did he die, and who buried him? By weaving together historical records, period photographs, and our own imagination, we will uncover some of his story. What do we know, and what may forever remain a mystery?

Please wear comfortable walking shoes. The walk to the cemetery is a little over half a mile, so one mile of walking in total is required. The trail is mostly flat, and we will move at an easy pace.
