When

June 3, 2023. 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Join us as we celebrate National Trails Day at Sweet Run State Park (formerly the Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship) with two guided hikes. Both hikes will start at the main parking lot. Consider bringing water, bug spray, and wearing sturdy shoes.

10:00 a.m.- The morning hike will be on the Farmstead loop and Piney Run Spur. This is the park's signature hiking trail. The hike will be about 2 miles with moderate elevation change. It is perfect for all ages and fitness levels. This scenic trail, once a road through a 19th century farming community, passes by multiple historic structures, Wortman Pond, and Piney Run. We will hike at an easy pace so that we can enjoy the woods, explore nature and look at the historic areas.

2:00 p.m.-  The afternoon hike will be on the Legacy Loop. This is a great moderate hike that explores some of the further areas of the park. The hike will be about 3 1/2-4 miles long with some elevation change. This trail has the iconic log bridge as well as one of the most scenic spots in the park at Gordon Pond, where the mountain foliage reflects in the pond. We will hike at a moderate pace so that we can enjoy the woods and explore nature.
